China Mobile is said to have completed the fourth-round TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) equipment procurement tender, the chinabye.com reported on July 16, adding that the tender results will likely be officially published within the next one to two weeks. The tender is valued at 45.0 billion RMB (US$6.62 billion; US$1 = 6.8 RMB). Eight companies participated in this tender include Ericsson and Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, Datang Telecom, Nokia Siemens Networks, Huawei, FiberHome, New Postcom, ZTE, and Potevio, according to the same source. Of the first three rounds of TD-SCDMA equipment procurement tenders, ZTE won the lion's share (34%), followed by Huawei and Nokia Siemens Network each with 29%.

 

China Unicom recently stated that the company's first batch of WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) Smartphones priced between 500 RMB (US$ 73.5) and 1,000 RMB (US$147.1) and manufactured by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, ZTE, Huawei, and Tianyu are now available throughout China, the chinabyte.com reported on July 13. In addition, China Unicom plans to launch second batch of Smartphones priced around 1,000 RMB (US$147.1) in the second half of 2010. Meanwhile, the company recently also announced the launch of a new high-end dual-mode 3G mobile phone, dubbed the Generosity, focusing on business users, the Sohu IT News reported on July 16. The phone priced at 5,988 RMB (880.6 RMB) is available for sale beginning on July 12. The Generosity is tailor-made by Samsung for China Unicom, supporting both WCDMA and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) networks, according again to the Sohu IT News.
